Laura Krevsky and Aron Goetzl: November 15, 2008
Photography By Oascar Rajo

Laura and Aron met their first year of college at Cornell University. After living in different cities for five years after graduating college, Aron and Laura were determined to move to the same city when they graduated from law school.

After Hurricane Katrina, Aron received a federal clerkship offer in New Orleans and Laura agreed that New Orleans would be a great place to live and to be part of the rebuilding efforts. Laura accepted a job at the Louisiana Capital Assistance Center and the couple began their residence in New Orleans.

After a nine-year courtship, Aron proposed on the balcony of their French Quarter apartment with a blue raspberry ring pop until Laura chose a more conventional engagement ring.

Laura and Aron knew they would need a wedding planner to help with the wedding since they have such hectic schedules, plus they wanted someone who knows New Orleans and could recommend vendors. They chose Erin Hotard with A Mother’s Touch Event Planning.

A traditional Jewish ceremony took place at the New Orleans Museum of Art at sundown on Saturday, November 15, 2008. After the signing of the Ketubah, the music for the ceremony began with Laura entering to Dodi Li (My Beloved is Mine).

Laura looked radiant in her uniquely designed gown by Yvonne LaFleur. Her bridesmaids wore black satin Alfred Angelo gowns.

Traditionally, the bride circles the groom seven times during the Hakafot. Laura and Aron divided up the circling, three each and then once together in an egalitarian expression of their feelings of wholeness and connection to each other. They then ascended the staircase where Rabbi Edward Cohn performed the ceremony under the chuppah created by Josh, Jerry and Hildred Nozick, close friends of the Krevsky family. The chuppah was held during the ceremony by friends of the bride and groom.

Laura carried the family Bible under her bouquet, the same Bible carried by Laura’s grandmother, mother, and sister at their weddings.

Sheva Brachot (the Seven Blessings) was beautifully sung by the bride’s sister, Sheryl Krevsky. The bridal party recessional was Siman Tov (Congratulations and Good Luck).

After cocktail hour, the guests enjoyed a marathon-length Hora, where the bride and groom were lifted high in the chairs and the bride’s parents celebrated the marriage of their last child. Laura’s Grandfather, Harold Krevsky, performed the motzi (the blessing over the bread). More dancing ensued throughout the final two hours of the reception.

In honor of their guests’ presence
at their wedding, Laura & Aron made donations to the following organizations: Judith Chuckrow Goetzl Memorial Scholarship Fund, NOLA 180 and No on California Proposition 8.

Looking forward to the changes coming with the election of President Obama and coupled with the desire to be closer to their families, Aron and Laura now reside in Washington, D.C., but not “without sadness at leaving such a vibrant and unique city.”
